Get registered with...

The Doctor

We strongly recommend you register with a Doctor. We have a General Practice on the Edinburgh campus and you can find out more information about them here including registering http://www.riccartongeneralpractice.co.uk/studenthealth/

The Dentist

Riccarton Dental Practice offers NHS dental care for Heriot-Watt University students. This is located in the same building as the health centre and you will need to register for this before you see a dentist.

In an emergency

Call 999 in an emergency situation. In the event of an emergency on campus you should also inform Campus Security using the red phones or by calling 2222 from any university phone. https://www.hw.ac.uk/students/health-wellbeing/emergency-arrangements.htm

If you have a non-life threatening issue that occurs out of hours you can call NHS 24 on 111 using a landline or mobile. It's a free service.

You should always call 999 in a life-threatening emergency—if someone is seriously ill or injured, and their life is at risk.

Emergency on campus?

If you or somebody else needs first aid then you should use the RED emergency telephones located throughout the campus. Or alternatively you can call 2222 from any internal university telephone. This will put you through to campus security who are trained first aiders.

If it is a serious medical emergency then call for an ambulance by dialing 999. You must then inform security as they will be able to escort the emergency services onto the campus and direct them.

Mental Health

The Advice Hub run and support university campaigns to promote and raise awareness of positive mental health of our students.
Mental health is something that can affect us all and it's okay to talk about it. Anxiety and stress is common amongst many students.
