We have loads of societies here at Heriot-Watt.
Techno Society
The Heriot-Watt Techno Society (hwts) provides a sound environment for students to listen, share and discuss their views on the forward thinking, sub-genres of electronic music: techno and house. The hwts is for anyone who shares the same enthusiasm and passion as us, along with everything else that encompasses itself with the music scene. We hold monthly events around Edinburgh at some of the city's biggest clubs. Our past events include takeovers at Cabaret Voltaire and Sneaky Pete’s where our society DJs get to soundtrack the night.
We also provide our members with various discounts to specific club nights and events across the city with your society card, allowing you to get to more of the nights that matter including FREE entry to Hector’s House all night long, all year long. We enable students to congregate, socialise and meet fellow, like-minded students who share the same admirations for techno and house, that otherwise they would not.

📊 Have you ever heard of: Artificial Intelligence, Fintech, Machine Learning and Big Data? If you have and you’re wondering who’s behind it all, it’s Data Scientists! They use data, technology and mathematics combined to help individuals make decisions, in any field that uses data.
By hosting hackathons, student conferences, programming classes and more, our society aims to promote data science by giving you practical opportunities to show the skills and knowledge this profession demands. In addition, we hope to help our members increase their employability, giving you something to brag about during those all-important job interviews.
Don’t worry though, we’re not just all work and no play! We’re also planning to host socials so you can let your hair down and explore beautiful Edinburgh too.

That's a usual thought some of us have at seeing those simplistic creative posts on every social media or paintings in some exhibition or museums. How about if we told you that you don't need to know drawing skills to be a graphic designer? Exciting, isn't it?
If you like the idea of being a part of a group where creativity is encouraged to be set loose, then come join our brand new Graphic Design society! Throughout the year, we will be engaging in basic fun learning activities of graphic design like poster making, random book cover designs, logo design and much more!

☕ Hey there, this is the Coffee Society. We're all about great specialty coffee, a world of fantastic hot beverages! We are open to everyone from those who've never made coffee before to professional baristas!
Our plan is to host loads of coffee events including brewing workshops, coffee tastings, outings and talks. Our first is scheduled for early November, a session to teach everyone how to brew amazing coffee at home without expensive machines and equipment - just in time for exam revision season!
