The journey for better study space

Nowhere to study?
Not for much longer.

Your Student Union has worked hard for you to secure better study space across the Edinburgh Campus. Working in co-operation with the University, we're excited that loads of new study space developments are underway.

Here's what we did and how the University has responded:

  • 2015: With an increasing student population, students were struggling to find space to study on campus. The Student Union launches it's 'Nowhere to study' campaign on the Edinburgh Campus. We took over the bridge link and launched an online consultation with students about study space on campus.
  • 2015: The University responds by opening up teaching rooms across the University for study and launches a new site hw.ac.uk/study-space so students can easily find out where they can study on campus.
  • 2015: The university begins upgrading learning and teaching space across the campus.
  • 2016: Elements is completely refurbished into a new Learning Commons with over 200 new seats. New PCs and group study rooms are installed as well.
  • 2017: The University announces further investment in new learning & teaching facilities
  • 2017: The Thread student space including studio areas (part of the Student Union) opens on the Scottish Borders Campus.
  • 2017: £6m refurbishment of the Edinburgh library is announced over the next 2 years.
  • 2017: £4m renovation of the James Watt Centre into a new learning & teaching facility to take place over the summer
  • Early 2019: A brand new flagship 'Discovery & Innovation' building will open on the Edinburgh Campus

Your Student Union, working with the University helps to make all this happen.

Keep telling us what's on your mind, so we can share it with the university and make your student experience better!
