Well, here we are – there is one more day until Freshers Week 2017!!!
Some of you are arriving on Saturday, some of you are arriving on Sunday and maybe some of you will be arriving later on. Whenever it is that you’re coming, we can’t wait to welcome you all to Heriot-Watt.
In all the excitement, we’re here to make sure you’re fully prepared with information and advice for the next couple of days.
Are you all packed?
We’re trying not to sound like your mum but there’s nothing more frustrating that emptying your bags and finding you’ve forgotten that one essential you can’t live without! Go over what you’ve got one more time, and check out our own list to see if there’s anything you didn’t think about.
Arrival
Just checking...do you know how to find us? You can find maps and directions to our Edinburgh and Scottish Borders campuses here (https://www.hw.ac.uk/about/maps-directions.htm). If you're flying into Edinburgh Airport there's a free shuttle bus every hour on the hour. Just look for the Universities Scotland Welcome Desk.
Secondly, when you arrive on campus you'll be able to drive straight to your halls or the nearest car park to it. It's going to be busy so please bear with us - you might be stuck in a queue! Security staff and Fresher Helpers will be on hand to help guide you.

We’ve left you a gift!
When you open the door to your new room, remember to open up the welcome pack we’ve left sitting on your desk! It contains a selection of freebies including your official Freshers 2018 wall planner, which has details of this week’s events and can be used as a calendar for the rest of the year.
Collect Your Freshers Pass
So you’ve bought your Freshers Pass online – awesome! Amongst all the mayhem of moving in, find a spare moment to pop down to the Student Union Box Office and pick up your Freshers Pass.
If you haven’t got your Freshers Pass, do not despair! It’s not too late to get yours. With the Freshers Pass, you will get FREE guaranteed entry into the UV Paint Party, the Beach Party, Back to School, the Club Night in Town and the Freebie Friday and Freshtival. Entry to the Pub Quiz is also free but not guaranteed – there is limited availability for this event. You’ll also get free cloakroom and as you don’t have to buy your ticket for the events every day, you can spend less time queuing, more time doing!
Meet your mates at 4pm
We’ll be hosting loads of activities right outside all the halls to help you meet your new hall mates. Get ready to get stuck in!
VK Party – Saturday 21:00, the Student Union
Courtesy of VK, the Student Union has been transformed into a magical, mysterious woodland for your first night of Freshers. Go wild as the wild is coming for you!
This event is free to everyone and is therefore not part of the Freshers Pass package. Don’t worry if you’ve bought a Freshers Pass but aren’t arriving until Sunday – you’ve not paid for something you won’t be attending!
UV Paint Party – Sunday 21:00, the Student Union
Whether you arrive on Saturday or Sunday, this is THE classic Heriot-Watt Freshers event you can’t miss. Write your name on your free Freshers t shirt (while stocks last) and prepare to get covered in UV paint with all your new friends. This event is free with your Freshers Pass!

And finally... RELAX!
It's our last blog (sob, sob) and our last opportunity to impart our pearls of wisdom to you. It's okay to be nervous but remember, everyone's in the exact same situation as you! Think positively, say yes to new experiences and do what's right for you, and you'll be setting yourself up for an amazing time at university.
Get a good night’s sleep because you’ve got quite a week ahead of you! We can't wait to say hi. We have an army of friendly Freshers Helpers out and about to help you settle in and make you feel welcome so please just ask if you need any help! They like feeling useful! Our Communications Team are eagerly awaiting any questions you might have so drop them a message if something’s on your mind.
