Introducing: The Advice Hub

University life isn’t always plain sailing. Life does get in the way sometimes.
The Advice Hub is a free impartial service run by the Union that provides help and advice to Heriot-Watt students on both academic and non-academic issues. If they aren’t able to help directly, they’ll be able to help you find the resources you need.
Here are just some of the things The Advice Hub can help you with:
- C-Card:
You can get free NHS condoms through the Hub as well as chlamydia testing kits and advice on sexual health and wellbeing.
- Finance:
There’s a hardship loan available as well as advice on alternative sources of funding, and advice on budgeting, financial problems, etc.
- Consumer Advice:
The Hub also provides advice on consumer problems and signposting to the Citizens Advice Bureau.
- International students:
Coming to a new country can be a daunting experience. We can give advice on the cultural differences you may experience to help make the transition more comfortable and guide you to appropriate services including the International Student Advisors Office.
- University procedures:
We can help guide you through Heriot-Watt procedures and policies on things like discipline, academic appeals, mitigating circumstances, and complaints.
- Academic representation:
The Advice Hub also supports by providing independent support and advice for students regarding individual student academic issues or group study issues.
- Academic Appeals:
If your results go badly due to circumstances beyond your control we are here to help you.
- Plagiarism:
Plagiarising at Heriot-Watt will result in disciplinary action. We can provide advice and support on avoiding it.
- Disciplinaries:
Hopefully, you’ll never find yourself in front of a disciplinary committee, but we can help you prepare for hearings and attend hearings with you to provide moral support.
- Complaints:
Again, we hope you’ll love your time at Heriot-Watt, but if things do go wrong we can help support you in finding the way for putting it right.
- Wellbeing:
We have dedicated drop-in times where you can come and talk to us about any issues that are playing on your mind.
- Nightline:
We are a part of Nightline, an anonymous and confidential support and information service for students in Edinburgh. You can call them on 0131 557 4444 (8pm-8am) or instant message via www.ednightline.com.
