PRESIDENT

Sabbatical Full-time Role - £17,892 Salary

The President of the Union acts as the spokesperson and you are often the first point of contact for university and media enquiries. As president your work will predominantly be focussed on academic affairs and global representation, working with colleagues in Galashiels, Orkney, Dubai and Malaysia to ensure that student views are fully represented. At some point you may even visit our international campuses. You will work mainly with the Academic Executive, the Postgraduate Students Officer and the Orkney Students Officer, as well as with the CEO and Student Engagement Manager.

The President sits on University Court and Senate as well as a number of other committees such as Learning and Teaching Board. They are a member of the Student Union Trustee Board and have the option to take the role of Chair when they take up Office. You’ll also chair weekly School Officer meetings, where you’ll gather regular feedback on important issues within each school.

VICE-PRESIDENT COMMUNITY

Sabbatical Full-time Role - £17,892 Salary

This position is not currently open for election. This position is usually elected in the Main Elections in February / March.

The Vice-President Community is the first contact for any student activity or event related enquiries, and works closely with the Activities Co-ordinator to ensure that students have a wide variety of volunteering options open to them. You will have a large role in organising Freshers Week, drawing on help from various staff members and officers to help run both day and night-time events. You will chair the activities committee, and work directly with the Societies, Halls and Charities officers, as well as the Events and Activities Executive members. You will also work with the Commercial Manager and Bar Manager to run regular events or promotions through our commercial venues.

Alongside the President, you will be responsible for organising meetings of the Executive Committee, and will be a member of the Student Union’s Trustee Board. You may be the nominated Union Officer on a number of University committees, including University Senate and Court.

VICE-PRESIDENT WELLBEING

Sabbatical Full-time Role - £17,892 Salary

This position is not currently open for election. This position is usually elected in the Main Elections in February / March.

The Vice-President Wellbeing is often the first point of contact for student equality & diversity issues and liberation campaigns. You will work closely with all the liberation groups (LGBT+, Women’s, International, Black Asian & Minority Ethnic, Disabled Students) and their respective officers to ensure they put on a varied range of events throughout the year, as well as working with the Equality & Diversity and Welfare Executive Members. The staff from our Advice Hub will be a key source of support through various welfare related events.

The VP Wellbeing also works closely with the university on welfare services and sits on the Equality and Diversity Committee. The VP Wellbeing is also a member of the Student Union Trustee Board, and attends the regular meetings of the Student Union’s Executive Committee. You may be the nominated Union Officer on a number of University committees, including University Senate and Court.

VICE-PRESIDENT SBC

Sabbatical Full-time Role - £17,892 Salary

This position is not currently open for election. This position is usually elected in the Main Elections in February / March.

The Vice-President Scottish Borders Campus is the first point of contact for all SBC related issues, and is responsible for the majority of campaigns or events run at the campus. Working with the SBC Executive Member and the SBC Administrator, you will host a week of events during Freshers Week, ensuring that students are able to settle in to Galashiels effectively. You will work on campaigns around key student issues, work with the School Officers to resolve any academic issues and you'll support students in setting up and running societies or events. Staff support is available from all the Edinburgh based staff when you need it, and regular catch ups will be arranged to support your work.

The VP SBC is a member of the Student Union's Trustee Board, and attends regular meetings of the Student Union's Executive Committee via Skype or conference call. You may be the nominated Union Officer on a number of University committees, including University Senate and Court.

NUS NATIONAL DELEGATION

Conference Delegate

Your Student Union is a member of the National Union of Students and has full voting rights in its policy and elections. NUS National Conference is the main policy making body of the National Union of Students. Delegations from all over the UK attend, debate, pass policy and elect new student leaders.

When you are elected as part of the Delegation you will be there to attend debate and vote on issues. You will be there to represent the views of our members and so before attending we will as a Union decide how we want to vote on certain issues. After a vote on campus you will be required to vote as indicated by our students.
